Oceanfix International provide a reputable and consistent quality assurance service to the seismic survey industry who require their navigation and survey equipment to be calibrated to the highest standard. In addition to the gyrocompass and DGPS systems, Oceanfix is responsible for ensuring that laser range finding and a variety of tailbuoy tracking systems are operating to the required standard.
These calibrations have been made possible by establishing a network of baselines covering many of the major ports in the UK, and recently baselines have also been established overseas. These baselines take the form of strategically positioned co-ordinated points whose position can be generated in any datum in addition to a local grid system, so that the calibration can be tailored to the client's particular requirement. The control for the recently established baselines has been determined by use of GPS equipment, using both static GPS observation techniques and RTK surveying methods. GPS positioning has enabled baselines to be established anywhere in the world in a relatively short space of time.
The latest Sokkia Total Stations are used to conduct the calibration. This use of sophisticated survey technology enables the measurements to be collected to the accuracy that is required of a dimensional control survey.
The results are calculated, almost instantaneously, and are clearly presented in the form of spreadsheets and graphical charts so that a close check can be kept on the consistency of the survey method, as well as monitoring the assessment of errors.
